GRAMBLING, LA — June 18, 2019 – Today, AT&T announced it has donated $25,000 in scholarship funds to students at Grambling State University; home of Louisiana’s first Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity.

“As the first University in the state to offer a bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Grambling State University is leading the way, preparing students for in-demand careers that will also help protect our economy and help secure opportunities for economic growth,” said Sonia Perez, President – AT&T Southeast States. “As connectivity becomes more and more a part of our lives – through automated vehicles, smart cities, the Internet of Things, and many other innovations – it is critically important that the data that is generated by these applications is communicated safely and securely, and the education these students are receiving is essential in the creation of that safe and secure environment.”

The contribution to Grambling State will support the University’s continual leadership in STEM fields and specifically cybersecurity students. The University, which began offering the computer science curriculum in 1972, is the state’s #1 producer of African-American Computer Science graduates.

“We are fortunate to have partners, like AT&T, who understand what it means to holistically invest in our students,” said President Rick Gallot. “Their contribution is critical as we work to support the financial needs of all of our students .”

AT&T joins a list of growing companies and public entities who are investing in Grambling State’s new Cybersecurity program. This year, the school has received investments from Louisiana Economic Development, IBM, and over $1.3 million raised during its “Bring it Home” Campaign that supports the Grambling University Foundation.
