BOARD APPROVES GRAMBLING CYBERSECURITY DEGREE
The Board approved Grambling State University's proposal to offer a bachelor of science degree in cybersecurity at today's meeting. This unique program will prepare students to meet the workforce needs of north Louisiana and beyond.

Grambling's computer science programs grew by 25 percent last year. GSU is Louisiana's top producer of African-American computer science graduates and among the top 50 producers nationwide.

Grambling President Rick Gallot offered details of the program's anticipated success and thanked the Board for its encouragement and continued support of Grambling.

"With the vision of your team and the support of this Board, we are confident Grambling is prepared to educate cybersecurity professionals the market is demanding," Board Chair Al Perkins said. "These graduates will be equipped with highly sought after skills to protect us as technology becomes more prevalent in our daily lives."

The proposal will seek approval from the Board of Regents in order to launch its first cohort in Fall 2019.
SIBILLIE AWARDED HONORARY DOCTORATE
The Board approved the University of Louisiana at Lafayette's request to award Winfred Sibille an honorary doctorate in educational leadership.

"Mr. Sibille's career has significantly impacted Louisiana students in both K-12 and higher education and has improved the lives of all Louisiana residents," UL Lafayette President Dr. Joseph Savoie said. "He has set a standard for public service that is compatible with the highest ideals and his efforts will continue to influence Louisiana policy for years to come."

Sibille was first appointed to the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System in 1995. He is the longest serving member in the Board's history.

Sibille's honorary doctorate will be awarded at UL Lafayette's fall commencement ceremonies to be held Dec. 14.
